What is Forest Heritage Days?

Since 1991, when the Maine Forest Service observed its 100th anniversary protecting Maine forests, a group of Moosehead Lake region individuals has organized Forest Heritage Days, dedicated from the start to providing the public a singular opportunity to learn about the working forests of Maine -the history, the present practices, and what’s in store for the future.

In 1992, the Greenville Board of Selectmen officially honored Forest Heritage Days for its promotion of the close ties between the Moosehead region and the working Maine forest with a proclamation.

Each year, Forest Heritage Days spotlights a different theme. With each year's theme, we will continue to maintain our focus on educating the public on the issues of stewardship and sustainability.

Fourteen years ago we added the Game of Logging, an exciting and highly skilled competition between Certified Logging Professional Level 4 loggers.

Forest Heritage Days will continue to combine education and entertainment in a unique fashion, featuring displays, tours, as well as discussion forums, music, humor, crafts, and of course, food.
