What is the CLP and the Game of Logging?
Since 1991, the Certified Logging Professional (CLP) program has promoted and recognized professionalism among loggers. As of 2006, approximately 5,300 Maine loggers have attended the CLP program. Curriculum includes safety, production felling techniques, safe and efficient wood harvesting, forest management and silviculture, business of logging and first aid for loggers.
In 1994 the “Game of Logging” was incorporated into the CLP program. Since that time this training system has become the standard for logger training nationwide. At this training, loggers develop skills to insure that trees fall in the right place, at the right time.
The “Game of Logging” competition is the culmination of the four day training program where the best of the best compete for a share of
a total prize package of $7,000. Events include saw chain filing, speed cut, bore cut, precision stump, spring pole, precision bucking and precision felling.
